International Women’s Day Theme
The UN Women announced the theme for International Women’s Day, 8 March 2021 (IWD 2021) as, “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.”

The UN’s 2021 theme celebrates efforts from girls and women in creating a more equal future and COVID-19 pandemic recovery.

The International Women’s Day hashtag theme for 2021 is #ChooseToChallenge. The 2020 theme was #EachforEqual; 2019’s was #BalanceforBetter.

History of the International Women’s Day
During the International Women’s Year, the United Nations celebrated it as an official holiday on March 8, 1975. Globally as women from various social-cultural groups come together on this day reflecting on among others decades for peace, justice, equality, and development, it is a day to recognize women.
